About The Grand Lodge and South Dakota Pheasant Hunting</strong> Our lodge is operated by four generations of Solberg’s. We are farming 15,000 acres of grain and we raise more than 1,000 head of cattle on an additional 5,000 acres of land South of the lodge near the Missouri River. Warren Solberg started farming and ranching as a young boy with his father, Chester and a brother in Westby, Montana. He and his late wife “Snookie” Katherine were married in 1961 and had 4 children Brenda, Deanna, Mike and Leann. Mike loved being with his dad, so farming was in his blood from the very beginning and they grew the farm and ranch both in Westby and into Saskatchewan, Canada. In the early 1980’s, Warren and Mike decided to expand their farming operation to South Dakota.
Mike and I were married in 1987 and after finishing college moved to the farm 25 miles north of Highmore in 1988. We are the parents of 5 children – Paige, Shan, Sierra, Hunter and Savannah. Our son Hunter was born with Cerebral Palsy and has many seizures, so when he started school we made the big move into town so we could be closer to Hunter when he was attending school. In 2009 we were blessed with a Grandson – Preston.
The Grand Lodge opened in April of 2008 has been a dream for years, as the whole Solberg Clan loves to hunt. For Mike and Warren hunting has always been their “playtime” – the chance to relax, have fun and enjoy the incredible wildlife that South Dakota has to offer while creating wonderful family memories as we hunt together on the farm. So the idea to build the Grand Lodge to create more “playtime” for our family and to share with others was an easy decision. Farming over 15,000 acres, we saw from year to year we our pheasant population explode! Friends from out of state that would come to hunt would always say “you have more pheasants than I have ever seen anywhere”.
Through our life experiences we truly believe “Life is about the memories you make”. So for us, meeting new people and creating memories while pheasant hunting on the great plains of South Dakota is the best job in the world. We take extreme pride in the fact we are a family owned and operated Lodge and that our staff is an extension of us. Our mission and goal for each hunter/guest is to make them feel welcome, at home and a member of our extended family. While at the Grand Lodge you will experience a pheasant hunt of a lifetime and make memories that will last forever! Mike and I look forward to meeting you and sharing our beautiful South Dakota sunsets!
